Beginner Backpack to Bear Creek to Bear Creek 2008/05/03

Troop 1201's youngest scouts participated in a Beginning Overnight Backpack to
Bear Creek. The choice turned out to be a good one as the boys had the
entire campground to themselves. The boys had plenty of practice
tent-pitching, Stove lighting, and meal-cooking as well as enjoying the stream.

Philmont Prep Hike to the top of Mt Baldy
2008/04/27
"The Philmont Crew successfully bagged Mount San Antonio peak
(10,064 feet) in our first preparation hike for Philmont. The entire crew of (9)
scouts and (3) advisors made the outing, great job guys! There was nearly 4,000
feet of gain over 8-miles on this hike. There was plenty of patchy snow above
the Ski Hut, but that didn't stop the crew from achieving the summit. Mount San
Antonio, better known to most in Los Angeles as Old Baldy or Mount Baldy, is the
highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California." --

With his Eagle Project under his belt, Bobby is positioned to go
out with a Bang

The second week of May marks the aging-out of yet another Troop 1201 vintage
Scout. As the troop's most senior member, Bobby V is remembered by this Scouter
as avid Sierra Trip participant whose nose [bleed] is as accurate as any
altimeter. Bobby has recently completed his Eagle project and his Eagle
Scoutmaster's Conference leaving only his Eagle Board of Review. A graduating
Senior at Troy HS, Bobby plans to attend Humboldt State University next year. --

Philmont Planning 2008/04/20
"Scouting offers countless opportunities that are available to
boys of all ages. As scouts get older, however, the real high adventure begins.
This year we have 9-scouts going to Philmont Scout Ranch to experience a 73-mile
high adventure backpacking trip over 12-days. Philmont is BSA’s premier
high-adventure base situated in more than 200 square miles of rugged New Mexico
wilderness. In addition to the expedition, the scouts will experience many
activities ranging from Black Powder rifle shooting to rock climbing and
rappelling. This evening the 2008 Philmont Crew and their adult advisors got
together to conduct business, enjoy a great BBQ and discuss their first prep
outing this coming weekend." – Scoutmaster Cliff. |

Camporee Tests the Boys' Outdoor Skills
2008/04/18

"Conditions were perfect this
weekend at Firestone Scout Reservation for the 2008 Los Amigos District
Camporee. Temperatures were in the 60s and the hills were a lush green with a
dusting of yellow from the wild mustard flowers that were blooming everywhere.
There were forty-nine patrols competing in thirteen Camporee events. Troop 1201
fielded seven patrols, (2 First Year, 3 Scout, 2 Advanced Scout), who all did a
superb job during the two day campout. One patrol stood out, however, our own
Troop 1201 Fire Tacos winning 1st Place overall in the First Year Scout
division. Congrats to Justin D. (PL), Mike v. (TG) and Mr. Allen (ASM) on a
great win! I hope everyone had a great time and you should all be very proud of
your efforts." - Scoutmaster Cliff

2008/04/12

"Be prepared. That's the Boy Scout motto and today that's just
what (23) Troop 1201 scouts did; they became more prepared for Camporee next
weekend. They also braved temperatures nearing 100-degrees. Citizenship, Menu
Planning, Knots, Patrol Method, Skits, Map & Compass, Fire Building, Height &
Distance, Pioneering, First Aid, Team Building, and the Kim's Game. Keep
practicing scouts and be sure you're prepared. Good luck to all of you! "
