Activities & Outings Activities are highly dependent and conditional on adult involvement and participation.  T-1201 is fortunate to have many active parent-leaders covering the gamut of activities.  The activities below are representative of historical Troop activities.  To see current happenings, check our Calendar

Canoeing Troop 1201 owns a small fleet of canoes & equipment that it rents out to other Troops and organizations to help generate revenue.  Each Spring Break, the troop traditionally launches a 7-day Colorado River canoe trip.  For many boys, this is the highlight of the year.  Swimming Merit Badge is required.  We also run canoe rides at Webelos weekend and Scout-o-Rama.

Bike Riding Several Bicycle trips are organized throughout the year ranging from a Webelos Invitational ride to interest new scouts to 20 mile treks on both street and dirt.

Tailgate Camping Troop 1201 participates in several tailgate camping events throughout the year.  Annual events include Camporee in the spring and a Joshua Tree trip in the winter.  The last three years have included a Caving trip especially designed for T-1201's new Scout Recruits.

Hiking & Backpacking Several Training hikes and backpacking trips are organized throughout the year culminating in an annual one-week Summer Sierra backpacking trip. There have been trips to Mt Whitney in recent years. In 2003 and again in 2005, the troop has traveled to Philmont, NM.  2006 plan features the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim.

Summer Camp Each summer, Troop 1201 sends a rather healthy contingent of boys to a summer camp of their choosing. Historically when the troop is large, there are two summer camps for the boys.  The summer camp for 2006 is Fiesta Island in Mission Bay.

Extra Crispy Scouting The last several years have seen several one-of-a-kind trips due primarily to the efforts of ASM Mr. Don Roberts.  These have included the Grand Canyon hike of 2002; Bryce/Zion/Narrows Hike of 2003 & 2005; Philmont N.M. 2003 & 2005; Yosemite/Half Dome 2004;  Kanderstag, Switzerland 2004; White Water Trip 2005-6;  Planned:   England + Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, Africa 2009

Archeology Digs ASM Don Roberts is one of the few Archeology Merit Badge counselors around.  There have been two prior interesting archeological digs.
*Technically, the troop wasn't re-chartered in 1942 because the adults had gone to the war -- however they still met under sponsorship of the First Presbyterian Church.
