Dear Scouts,

I've been getting some questions lately about the new 1st Class requirement to tell someone about Boy Scouts. This requirement applies to any scout who has passed their 2nd Class Board of Review on or after January 1st, 2006.

Requirement: "Tell someone who is eligible to join Boy Scouts, or an inactive Boy Scout, about your troop's activities. Invite him to a troop outing, activity, service project or meeting. Tell him how to join, or encourage the inactive Boy Scout to become active."

Here is a link to some instructions on how to do this electronically. It sounds like a neat approach. I recommend you follow up the e-mail with a phone call as not everybody reads e-mail. Also, keep records of what you did so you can get your sign-off. If your friend comes to a meeting, be sure to get the sign off that night. (Note you only have to make the effort, the boy you're trying to recruit does not have to actually attend a meeting or join.)

Best Regards,

Scoutmaster Cliff
